Master the Blow-Out

Chris Funk of Vancouver’s Blo Blow Dry Bar shows you how to master a DIY menu of salon-style blow-drys

FOR SUPER STRAIGHT HAIR Start with a smoothing oil and loosely blow-dry your hair in a downward direction until it's two-thirds dry. Use a paddle brush or pull a large round brush downward as you dry, then finish the ends with a hot iron for extra sleekness.

FOR BOUNCY CURLS Separate your hair into two-inch sections and blow-dry each piece with a round brush before wrapping it around a Velcro roller. Let it set, then blast your rolled hair with cool air from the blowdryer before releasing the curls.

FOR A DEFTLY DISHELVED LOOK Blow-dry your locks loosely, misting a texturizing spray as you go. Try not to touch your hair too much; you'll end up with mega-frizz. When your hair is almost dry, use your hands to scrunch the middle area at the sides and back for a sexy, messy effect.

FOR SMOOTH WAVES Blow-dry your hair upside down to build fullness, then flip your head over and pull upward on your roots with your fingers as you continue to blow-dry. When your hair is two-thirds dry, divide it into three horizontal sections and finish blowdrying using a large round brush. Turn the brush as you go to create smooth arcs.
