Popping up in Canada's hot spots are a new wave (no pun intended) of hairstyling boutiques – blow-out bars. These boutiques specialize in washing and styling for on-the-go ladies (and gents) and offer $30 styles in about 30 minutes.

This past weekend I checked out the new Blo location at 626 King St. W.

Now I have to tell you, I am the worst client a stylist could ever have (or at least I've been told that since I was a child.) My thick curly hair can look amazing, but only after hours of pulling, drying, brushing, straightening, curling etc. So I was quite skeptical when I arrived that Blo, thinking to myself, "This totally isn't going to go well."

Well, let me tell you, I was more than impressed! When I walked in I was greeted by a sea of ladies dressed in black and hot pink. They offered me a menu -- a laminated booklet highlighting the seven styles that they offer -- everything ranging from elegant up-do's to rock-and-roll looks. After choosing my ideal style, I was washed, dried and styled all within an hour and I left feeling like a rock star.
