Name:
Chris Funk
What do you do?
I live and breathe hair. As Blo Blow Dry Bar’s Style Director I am responsible for making sure that Blo is like Starbucks – whatever location you go to, you know you are going to get the same fabulous product! I train staff through Blo’s renowned Blo U(niversity) to make sure that each bar is staffed with hair experts.
How long have you lived / worked in Yaletown?
Three years.
Best place to get lunch:
Urban Thai Bistro. The spring rolls (and anything spicy) are to-die-for!
Best place for dinner:
Such a tough question! We Yaletown-ites are spoiled with the food selection. One of my go-to places is Capone’s – love the food and the atmosphere.
What’s the one thing about Yaletown that only a local would know of?
There is a creepy tunnel system that runs underneath Yaletown – rumour is that it was used to transport cattle when Yaletown was a meatpacking district.
One word to describe Yaletown:
Chic. It’s a one-stop destination where you can pick up a fab outfit, get your hair did, eyelashes lengthened, eyebrows threaded, make-up applied and then go out for a night on the town!
Who was your first celebrity sighting in Yaletown?
OMG – Halle Berry, her BF and their little girl. I almost died, what a gorgeous family!
What’s the one thing you like about Yaletown?
All of the great places to eat!
What’s the one thing you don’t like about Yaletown?
Ewwww, the dumpsters. Yaletown, you need to figure out the dumpster situation!
You wish Yaletown had more of:
Clothing stores! I’d love a few more options.
You wish Yaletown had less of:
Nose-to-the-ground types. I don’t get the sidewalk fascination!
What is Yaletown missing?
A gay bar. There’s a fantastic gay population in Yaletown!
Favourite memory being in Yaletown:
The familiarity. Yaletown is like home, business owners remember you by name. I heart Yaletown.
