Blo Me Dry

Next time, don’t blow your money on an expensive salon.

I get my cut & styled about once every 6 months to a year. What holds me back from going more often? (Hair dressers often ask me in a more snippy tone that that). Well, for one I don’t have time to even brush my hair when I get out of the shower. Two, I find it painful to drop 5 bucks on a pack of hair ties when there are so many just lying around, so what makes you think I’m going to spend $75 on a trim? And three, I hate to see my long luscious locks go under the knife—somehow they always get chopped a little shorter than promised.

But, I will say I appreciate a trip to the salon and the way it can hike up my self-confidence, making me feel afterwards like Cindy Crawford strutting around in a diet Pepsi commercial. That is why I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s opening of Blo, a hair styling bar in Cow Hollow. This is no joke, for all you pathological liars who find some sick form of delight in the fictitious holiday of April Fools Day. Nope, this is the real thing.

For those who still have no idea what I’m talking about, the speedy salon’s mission statement sums it up pretty well on their website:

Blo's concept is simple: for around 30 dollars and in about 30 minutes, you have a blow out style. No cuts, no color, just WASH. BLOW. GO.

Blo, which was started in Canada, might be nice for all of the job interviews and big dates I have coming up. Ok so maybe I don’t have any, but I’ll know where to go next time I want to feel really pretty. Go in, pick a style off the menu, spare some change but no inches, and leave before your lunch break is over. Your three o’clock meeting or happy hour blind date will go better than planned; you'll just blow them all away. Won't you now.

I got this clever little official notice about the salon in my email from Daily Candy SF:

The Challenge: Perfect hair, in spite of SF’s microclimate.

Nemeses: Fog, wind, an out-of-nowhere hail storm.

Your Attaché: Blo Blow Dry Bar, opening in Cow Hollow on Friday.

Details: For around $30, and in about 30 minutes, the beauty bar’s “bloers” can create the right look for a first date (sexy-but-approachable Red Carpet), job interview (super-straight Executive Sweet), or black-tie affair (tousled Bardot Updo). The blow-dry-only spot opens as early as 7 a.m., so you can even sneak in before that early-morning meeting.

Secret Weapons: Purchase a Blo Tab to get eight styling sessions for the price of seven — or enlist Blo on the Go to come to you and get you and your friends gorgeous before any event.
