Barbie’s Dream Closet brings glam to NY Fashion Week

Barbie® is no longer just a porcelain doll. She has come alive with a persona that has brought over 50 years of success to Mattel Toy Company. In 2009, Barbie made an appearance at NY Fashion Week to celebrate her 50th birthday by holding her own runway show. The event showcased fashions contributed by fifty well-known haute couturiers including Diane von Fürstenberg, Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, Bob Mackie, and Christian Louboutin.

Now Barbie is returning to the NY Fashion Week this month and bringing her Dream Closet for all to play in. Starting on Saturday, February 11th and continuing through Monday, February 13th you can share in Barbie’s glamour by stopping by the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center where Zugara, a company that has developed augmented reality software, will set up three different kiosks allowing fans to virtually try on their pick of any one of 30 different looks. These looks will be divided into five different collections that will include career, couture, vintage, fairytale and Ken.

On February 9th, Barbie has invited everyone to explore her fab closet by using a webcam or choosing outfits from a gallery in an experience called BarbieWow.com/TheDreamCloset.

Polyvore has also stepped in to have users create Barbie inspired style boards that can be shared using social media outlets.

Recently Barbie has gone Behind Pink Doors and brought on a team of fashion professionals to speak about their experiences and love for fashion. The team includes Stylist Mary Alice Stephenson, Model Coco Rocha, Alexis Bittar, Dylan Lauren and more. These celebrated woman in fashion speak candidly about what they most treasure in their own closets.

In addition on Saturday, February 11th Blo, North America’s Original Blow Dry Bar, will be hosting a Barbie beauty bar at Lincoln Center for fashion icons, celebrities, top editors and their children. Invited guests will choose from a selection of NYFW hairstyles to show off their glam side.
